We Create Chemistry for a Sustainable Future
Our contribution to your sustainable solutions
Climate protection is the biggest global challenge we face today. BASF Inorganic Chemicals is committed to constantly reduce the carbon footprint of our products and of our customers.
Climate protection is very important to us and is a crucial part of our corporate strategy. BASF has set itself new, more ambitious goals on its journey to climate neutrality and wants to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
To achieve this, BASF has adopted a comprehensive carbon management strategy. CO2 avoidance potential in
electric power and steam production is covered through levers
"grey-to-green" and "power-to-steam".
CO2 emissions in the upstream and, to a lesser extent, downstream plants are
addressed by new technologies. As a central component of our Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, inorganic chemicals will benefit from those innovations.
The strengths of our Verbund sites
Sustainability is
part of the DNA of BASF. Since the development of the first Verbund sites at
Ludwigshafen more than 150 years ago, BASF efficiently uses resources and optimizes material flows and logistics.
Today, inorganic chemicals are produced at Verbund sites at Ludwigshafen and Antwerp to serve our global customers.
Efficiency has been the focus of BASF for many years, and they are continuously improving the carbon footprint leveraging on their own Verbund Integration. BASF is committed to putting new measures in place to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
BASF continuously invests in our Verbund sites to further save CO2 emissions. Every measure counts and can make a big difference.
In the nitric acid
cluster at Inorganic Chemicals, for example, digitalization measures and
improved process control enabled BASF to avoid 145,000 tons of CO2 equivalents
per year by increasing the nitrous oxide (N2O) decomposition rate from 99% to
99.9%.
Sustainable Portfolio in Inorganic Chemicals
Consistent with BASF's corporate focus on sustainability and carbon footprint reduction, Inorganic Chemicals has launched several products aimed specifically at providing sustainable solutions for our customers. Those products include:
- Low PCF Caustic Soda
- HydroBlue® 90
- Blankit® Grades
- Adlite®
- Sodium Nitrate for concentrated solar power
- Sodium Methylate for biodiesel production
